Broomball!

Attention:  Broomball enthusiasts!

NedRINK is excited to announce the addition of another great winter sport to its holiday lineup:  Broomball!

BroomballBroomball is a hockey-like ice sport, where the object is to score goals by hitting a ball, similar in size to a #3 soccer ball, into a goal. Unlike hockey, broomball is played in shoes or boots -- no skates required. The stick is basically a broom handle with a hard rubber wedge on the end.

Cornering is tricky, which puts a premium on passing, balance and hand/eye coordination.

The first game is scheduled for this Sunday, 12/20, at 4pm, concurrent with stick & puck. We'll play cross-ice, 3 on 3 or 4 on 4, with goalies, if enough folks turn out. We'll provide the brooms and balls; You bring the following:

  • Helmet (required). Any helmet will do -- hockey, ski, bike, etc.
  • Gloves. Hockey gloves provide extra protection from swinging sticks, but any grippy gloves will do.
  • Knee pads. Not required, but ice is slippery, and knees can take a beating. Anything from volleyball kneepads to hockey shinguards would be fine.
  • Warm clothes.

That's it!

All ages are welcome, so long as they can push an adult-sized broom.

NOTE: There will be a $3 fee on top of your regular ice fee, to help subsidize the cost of the equipment.

Sincerely,
R.I.N.K.
